Education Reform in Colorado
Improving student achievement and preparing students for success after high school is one of the major issues in Colorado today. The work to reduce the dropout rate and increase the number of students fully prepared for college or the workplace is being propelled by Gov. Bill Ritter, Colorado Commissioner of Education Dwight D. Jones, the Colorado State Board of Education and The Colorado State Legislature. They are working closely with teachers, administrators and community leaders who share the same passion to improve schools for all.

Welcome to my Website!
I'm honored to represent the 7th CD on the Colorado State Board of Education. On this site, you can read more about me and what I want to accomplish during my term. You can also sign up for my regular online newsletter about SBE activities and events you might like to attend.
Prior to joining the Board, I enjoyed an extraordinary 34-year career in education – as a middle and high school teacher, a curriculum supervisor, and a teacher leader. As a result, I’ve had the opportunity to develop a deep knowledge and understanding of both the academic and professional aspects of teaching and learning. Throughout the years, my work also provided me with numerous leadership and collaborative experiences within the parent and business communities and with policy makers at all levels of government.
This past year, Colorado has taken significant steps toward creating an education system that addresses our future needs. This will require some major changes, it will take time and there will be ongoing challenges. All of us will be called upon to contribute. And the State Board of Education will play a pivotal role in determining how we do that in a way that best meets the needs of students and communities and upholds our democratic principles and values. I’m reminded every day that my own continuous learning and varied experiences over all those years has significantly eased my transition into this position and helped me hit the ground running.
This is a time of great opportunity for education in Colorado. It’s our time to learn, our time to make it happen, and our time to shine. I want to continue sharing my learning, energy and passion for education with yours in doing this very important work. With your vote, I will continue working hard to earn your ongoing support.
Thank you for supporting public education and for your active involvement in the democratic process!
Sincerely,
